Marine grade plywood

 

Marine Plywood is the "special forces" in the plywood family, designed to cope with extreme environments such as high humidity, water immersion, and even seawater corrosion. Its core standard is to pass the rigorous test of boiling water for 72 hours without opening the glue.

Physical properties:

  • Side texture: The most prominent feature is the clear and neat layered structure on the side, which is vividly referred to as the "Weihua Biscuit" pattern. This layered texture is often directly exposed as an industrial or minimalist design element.
    Surface texture: retaining the natural wood's conduits and fibers, with a slightly astringent touch, not as smooth as the decorative panel. According to the standard, a small amount of repaired knots or color differences are allowed on the surface, which is considered as proof of natural identity.
    Color change: Initially, it appears as light yellow (birch) or reddish brown (eucalyptus), but gradually turns amber with oxidation over time, and there may be natural color differences between different batches.

Appearance and touch:

  • Weight sensation: Due to its high density of 550kg/m ³ -720kg/m ³, it is significantly heavier than ordinary multi-layer boards of the same size. The solid weight during transportation gives people a strong and reliable psychological suggestion.
    Temperature and texture: Moderate thermal conductivity, warm touch, not as cold as metal stone. In the untreated state, the undulations of the wood fibers can be clearly felt. If the edges are not finely polished, there may be slight burrs, but the overall structure is compact and there is no loose or flaky feeling.

Processing performance:

  • Machining Challenge (Hard): Extremely high density and hardness are the "killers" of cutting tools. Cutting and drilling must use hard alloy (TCT) or cobalt containing drill bits. Ordinary high-speed steel cutting tools are prone to wear, chipping, and even burning of the plate. The cutting speed should be slow and not forcefully pushed forward.
    Connection advantage (stability): The tight fiber structure gives it super strong nail holding force, and the screw bite is extremely tight. It is not easy to slip even after repeated disassembly and assembly, making it very suitable for making load-bearing structural components (such as bed frames and shelves).
    Surface treatment (complex): If you pursue a smooth touch, the polishing workload is 30% -50% greater than that of ordinary boards, and you need to gradually transition from low mesh to high mesh. But its rough surface is very suitable for applying wood wax oil, which can penetrate deep into the fibers and highlight the texture; If making varnish, the holes need to be filled first.
